Flowers in San Fransisco

Don't forget my Progresso Soup Giveaway HERE.

My mom's half-brother, Steven, lives in San Fransisco and is a florist.  He is doing the flowers for the wedding as a gift.  Can you believe that generosity?  I can't.  And get this, he is shipping the flowers from San Fransisco to New Hampshire!  Crazy, I know.  He insists because he likes the flower market he deals with so much.

Now, Steven has been bugging us to come visit for quite some time.  As much as I'd love to go, I certainly can't afford it right now.  And I wasn't holding my breath for my parents to take me either.  I should say that I have never, ever been on vacation with my family that required a plane ride.  We used to go to the beach or go camping, which was always fun.  The farthest we have ever been as a family was Washington, D.C. when I was 15 and we drove and that's about it.  Turns out, my dad is afraid of flying, so that explains a lot.

Well, lo and behold, my mother and I are flying to San Fransisco over my spring break in March!  I can't believe it and I am so excited.  Obviously I've never been to California before and I'm excited to see the Pacific Ocean.  Usually I just work over spring break, but it will nice to actually go on vacation.  I feel bad that Patrick has to stay here in Maine to continue student teaching, but honestly I don't feel that bad.  I mean, he's been to California several times already.

So while we're there we get to go to the flower market and pick out the type of flowers I want for the wedding.  He's pretty much told me I can pick anything I want, which is so overwhelming.  I think it's harder to make a choice when you can pick anything.  We're not doing floral centerpieces, so I just need to pick flowers for the bridal party.  The girls dresses are blue and our other color is a bright pink.  Here are some of my ideas so far:

I think I like the second photo best for the bridesmaids.  I haven't decided if I want white for myself, or a mix with blue or pink.  I do really like the look of the bright pink calla lillies and they look so elegant.  There are so many choices!  I'm just glad that I'm going to get to see the varieties in person before the wedding.  And I feel so blessed to be receiving such a wonderful wedding present!

  1. I have never been to CA, but have done my fair share of flying! My sister had hydrangea's (sp?) at her wedding and they were absolutely gorgeous!

  2. you are so lucky! that gives you a major chunk to work with on your budget. we plan on going to an actual flower farm and pickign the flowers and then just arranging them ourselves. thats what happens when you live in the country and dont have great florists.

    i love the second picture.

  3. Wow what an awesome gift! I love the second pic as well. In my original color scheme we were going to have navy dresses with fuschia/dark pink flowers. I love them!
