Honeymoon Dreaming

Patrick and I are 5 months away from the wedding as of tomorrow.  I can hardly believe it!  We're starting to think about our honeymoon and I'm getting excited about it.  The real question is where to go?  Here are our ideas so far:
Chicago
Pros:
I've never been there before, but Patrick has so he knows a little bit about how to get around.
Public transportation can get us pretty much anywhere we want to go.
It's a big city with lots of things to do.
Cons:
If we want to relax and hang out, there really isn't a beach (that I know of anyway) and we'd have to chill in the hotel.

Virginia Beach and/or Ocean City, NJ
Pros:
Neither Patrick or I have been to Virginia Beach and we love exploring new places
We do love Ocean City and being near a beach
There are so great bed and breakfasts to stay at and we love a yummy (included) breakfast
Big cities like Philly are near by if we wanted to check out a city
Cons:
We'd have to drive and we're looking at a 7 hour drive to Ocean City and an 11 hour drive to Virginia Beach

Miami
Pros:
Neither of us have been there, could be interesting
Cons:
It seems like things are really expensive there and we are on a budget

Vegas
Pros:
The price is pretty good
There are lots of things to do and check out
Cons:
We're not real big gamblers (is there anything else in Vegas besides gambling?)

Jamaica or Dominican Republic
Pros:
All inclusive resorts that include all the food and drinks you could want, as well as lots of things to do
Cons:
A little more expensive than some of the other options, but does include everything

I don't know what we're going to do!  Have any of you been to these places?  Any recommendations on things to do?  Or any recommendations on any other budget-friendly honeymoon locations?  We're always open to suggestions!

  1. Hmm well my guy is stationed in VB so I can definitely offer some insight on that. I guess it depends on what you are really looking for. There are some great beaches! It seems to be a family vacation destination. We went to the DR two summers ago and it was great! There were a lot of destination weddings going on. I haven't been to Vegas but my family has- there are a lot of shows to see and things of that nature.

  2. Ooo, honeymoon planning- my FAVORITE subject! Okay lets see...
I've been to Chicago and I thought it was really fun. Like you said there is a lot to do. I believe there are also some beaches on the great lakes. If you are going to go with Chicago I think it would be cool to stay in the city for a few days and be really tourists and then maybe go to a hotel outside the city on one of the lakes etc for a few days of relaxing.
Miami does not scream honeymoon to me...and it will be hot in the summer. Yuck.
I've never been to Vegas but everyone CLAIMS there is a lot to do other than gamble. I hate gambling so I haven't tried it out yet, but like I said apparently there is other stuff to do.
Jamaica or DR would be beautiful and relaxing if you think you can swing the price.
It's hard to give other ideas because I don't know flight prices from you to these places but I think most US cities COULD be done on a budget depending on what your budget is and how much research you do on hotels. I am loving Arizona right now, especially the Sedona area. I like San Fran or San Diego could be good for a honeymoon...maybe even Seattle? So many possibilities, it's so hard to decide!
